Dental Benefits of Eating a Lot of Fiber

Dental Benefits of Eating a Lot of FiberFiber is one of the best things you can eat for a balanced diet that will help with your digestion. Your body needs to consume fiber daily to keep regular bowel movements and prevent constipation.

Fiber also enables you to eliminate toxins and waste that the body can't use through the colon.
Aside from the benefits eating fiber has for your body, it can also be extremely beneficial for your oral health.

Why is Fiber Good for Your Teeth?

It is important to note from the onset, that fiber is essential for good digestive health and can improve your oral health as well. However, you won't get the same benefits from taking fiber in pill form. For you to get the maximum benefits from fiber on your oral health, you must eat them in your diet.

We are keenly aware that when it comes to your dental care, prevention is vital. Aside from brushing, flossing, and visiting our office twice per year, or as recommended by our dentists, there are other things you can do to keep your teeth healthy.

One of those things is eating foods rich in dietary fiber. Fiber contains essential minerals and vitamins that promote good oral health and help prevent conditions such as tooth decay and gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss.

In general, foods that are rich in fiber require lots of chewing, which massages your gums, increases the production of saliva, and helps to clean food particles that can produce plaque, the sticky residue that attaches to your teeth and causes cavities. Saliva is a natural antibacterial agent that cleans your teeth when you don't have access to a toothbrush.

The dental benefits of eating a lot of fiber make it one of the most important elements of your diet not only for your digestion but for your dental health.
